TBAC Introduces Flights to AFSFA
Travis Bay Area Chapter is launching the Flight concept in the San
Francisco Bay Area. This new program, originating with TBAC, was
introduced to AFSFA at the Region 6 Workshop held 28 March 2015 in Santa
the world, there are pockets of current Security Force Defenders,
separated or retired AP, SP and SF members and non members. The goal of
AFSFA Flights is to create opportunities for these individuals to get
and stay connected with other AFSFA members by meeting regularly on an
informal basis and be connected to the nearest chartered chapter even when there are too few members present to support a new chapter.
AFSFA is a Professional Organization connecting the Past, Present and Future Known by many names since the first days of the Army Air Corps and the transition to and forming of the United States Air Force - AFSFA Membership is open to anyone who has served honorably in the Army Air
Corps MPs, Air Police, Security Police, or is now serving in the
Security Forces career field -- or that component of the Air National
Guard, Air Force Reserves, IMAs, or DoD police officers.
U.S. Air Force Defenders of All Generations.
In the process of chartering TBAC, prior, current and potential AFSFA members were contacted. Separated and retired Defenders wanted to join and participate but many were prevented from doing so by medical reasons, distance, or work schedules. Others were simply content with receiving their Tiger Flight (now Security Forces Magazine) and staying in touch by reading the news.
TBAC Chartered in October 2014 and currently meets monthly on Travis AFB
Individuals eligible for AFSFA membership and current AFSFA members are encouraged to contact any member of the Travis Bay Area Chapter and become a Flight member. TBAC Flights can form from just outside the Main Gate of Travis AFB and reach anywhere inside Northern California.
The goal of Flights is very simple - Get more prior service Defenders connected and make them aware of AFSFA. No meeting agendas, no dues, no minutes, no formality. The only requirement is to get together on something of a regular schedule. While formally connected to a Chapter, there is no obligation to that Chapter. We only ask that you send in an attendance sheet once a year showing the dates the Flight met and who attended.
TBAC will coordinate the first few meetings of those Flight members in your area. Each Flight will need someone to step forward to accept the role of Flight Chief to coordinate the gatherings.
A Flight may consist of 2 or more AFSFA Members.

Members of the Flight will choose the name of their Flight.
While Flights are independent, they are still connected to a Chartered AFSFA Chapter. Flights will receive regular updates on Chapter activities, meetings, etc. - and are encouraged to attend and participate as they see fit.
The initial goal is to create five (5) Flights.
South Bay - San Jose Area, Mountain View, Milpitas, Fremont
San Francisco - San Francisco, South San Francisco, San Bruno
North Bay - Mill Valley, San Rafael, Novato
Sonoma - Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa, Windsor
East Bay - Union City, Hayward, Oakland, Richmond
Diablo - Danville, Walnut Creek, Concord
If you're in an area not within the Flights shown, no problem. Let us know and we'll add your area to the list. TBAC will support any Flight within Northern California.
If you're in another part of the California, another state or country, check the AFSFA web site Chapter Map for a chapter, or check with a chapter near you about starting a Flight.
Or you may contact an AFSFA Regional Director to learn more about chapters in your area.
